Old Fashioned Shortbread

This traditional shortbread is delicious and a breeze to make ahead of time.

Total Time: Prep 15 minutes Bake Time 10 to 14 minutes


2 cups room temp butter

4 cups all purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

Pinch of salt


Combine ingredients by hand or much easier if you use a dough hook on your mixer. Work it until it comes together as a pliable dough. Knead the dough roughly 10 times and divide in half.

Form a log from each piece of dough

Wrap tightly in plastic wrap keeping the log shape

Put both logs into a freezer bag and pop in the freezer until needed.

When ready to bake remove from freezer and let sit at room temp for 15-20 min

Line cooking sheet with parchment paper

Slice in 1/2 “ discs, add candy sprinkles (if desired) and bake at 350 until edges turn slightly brown (approx. 10-14min depending on your oven)

Cool on cookie sheet until they can be moved to a cooling rack without breaking.
