The S&C Story
S&C brand founders Steven Sabados and Chris Hyndman joined forces in 1992 and formed the design company, The Sabados Group. Their energetic and dynamic approach to design allowed Steven and Chris to seamlessly combine design projects with entertainment and soon they appeared on a variety of daytime shows. It wasn't long before Steven and Chris were offered their own media showcase and together they pioneered the birth of "design television".
The smash hit "Designer Guys" debuted in 2001 followed by "Design Rivals" (2003) "So Chic with Steven and Chris" (2005) and the highly successful CBC daily talk show, Steven and Chris (2007-2015). To this day these popular programs continue to air in parts of the United States and in over 50 countries world wide.
In 2007 Steven and Chris developed their own lifestyle product brand, successfully launching collections of furniture, accessories, rugs, lighting and textiles under the brand S&C.
Though sadly we lost Christopher Hyndman in 2015 his design legacy lives on through the artistry and leadership of Steven Sabados and his design team. Together with their industry partners the brand continues to uphold the philosophy of "Timeless, Fresh & Fabulous”.
The brand identity has evolved and today it is marketed under both Steven Sabados as well as the iconic S&C. In addition, the Steven Sabados STUDIO brand launch in the Fall of 2019. This highly personal and dynamic product line takes inspiration directly from Steven’s own artwork, sculpture and photography. The Steven Sabados STUDIOcollection principally features artwork but will also encompass area rugs and unique decorative pieces inspired by Steven’s artistic vision.
Steven Sabados
Steven Sabados was born and raised in the Niagara area of Ontario, Canada. From an early age Steven pursued his passion for the arts, finding avenues of expression in painting, photography, architecture and fashion. After completing an education in Fine Art Steven moved to Toronto where he excelled as the in-store Creative Director for some of Canada’s most successful retail brands including Eaton’s and Roots.
In 1992 he met his partner Christopher Hyndman and together they formed an independent design firm, The Sabados Group. The powerful combination of Steven's design vision and Chris' dynamic energy allowed the couple to become HGTV’s top design team and to launch their own highly successful product brand, S&C.
Since that time the brand identity has evolved, and it is now marketed under both Steven Sabados as well as the iconic S&C.
In 2019 the brand expandedwith the introduction of the Steven Sabados STUDIO collections. This highly personal and dynamic product line takes inspiration directly from Steven’s own artwork, sculpture and photography.
Steven's life continues to be shaped by his passion for design, his love of family and friends, and his continuous search for artistic inspiration. Steven will also have a continued presence both on air and through digital media. Christopher’s appreciation for beauty is never forgotten and continues to influence S&C product design.
Under Steven’s creative leadership as an artist, photographer and designer the S&C design philosophy of “timeless, fresh & fabulous" will continue to thrive.
Chris Hyndman
Christopher Hyndman was born in Ottawa, Ontario and raised in the natural beauty of Newfoundland. Christopher saw beauty everywhere; the perfume of the sea air, the cut of a suit, the construction of a Louboutin heel and the harmony of a well designed room.
Chris met Steven in Toronto where they were making their way in the art and design world. In 1992 they established The Sabados Group and quickly rose to success in print and television media. Christopher's charm, curiosity, wicked wit and dazzling smile lit up rooms and elevated heavy hearts. Their CBC lifestyle show, Steven and Chris was incredibly successful and held the number one daytime slot year after year.
Sadly, Christopher passed away on August 3, 2015. As a tribute to his life and creative passion Steven has since rebuilt the S&C design team and relaunched the brand.
Christopher’s appreciation for beauty is never forgotten and continues to influence every S&C product design.
