Bold Beadboard Kitchen

Louise from New Jersey asks:

My Kitchen!! I’ve had the same colour for 10 years (Like a terra cotta) & I want a change. I wanted to make one wall a dark purple, maybe a shade of grey on walls, don’t know if I can make it work! Help Steven. I need your expertise...I wanna sing again "she’s got style Baby yeah yeah yeah!!”

Hi Louise,

Thanks for your question, and yes I feel as though the terra cotta colour may be dating your kitchen.

My thought is to install bead board to the bottom half of the chair rail, and paint it in the same tone as your cabinets (the kitchen will appear much larger). Bead board can be purchased in 4’X8’ sheets from a big box hardware store, quite inexpensively. I would then paint the upper half of the walls BM HC 151 Buckland Blue (see inspiration pic…although colour is not exact). Also perhaps changing the lace valance on the windows to a solid fabric, and spray out the hardware to black, for a punch. I see you have a lot of small decor items on the walls, try replacing them with larger prints for bigger impact.
